These large mailboxes are USPS Approved 3200 Series horizontal mailboxes, made for multi-tenant applications, such as apartments, condominiums, and offices. They are designed to be fully recessed into an opening and are shipped completely assembled. Ideally suited for large mailbox walls and mailrooms.

In 2006, the USPS no longer approved the use of these large mailboxes in brand new construction. Earlier that year, they released the 4C Mailboxes, which is loosely based on the successful Cluster Mailboxes (CBU Mailboxes). As the 4C Mailboxes came online, the USPS Approved Horizontal Mailboxes were phased out for new construction. However, they are still allowed if your project currently uses these large mailbox systems and you are simply replacing them, or if you are undergoing only minor renovations and your project would require significant alteration to accept the new 4C style mailboxes. For these grandfathered applications, the USPS has agreed to allow their carriers to continue to deliver to them.
